Jamaica Bags

About six months ago I was contacted about making totebags for friends that were getting married in Jamaica. The couple wanted to give all of their guests a special gift for making the trip to Jamaica to see their wedding.  Although we took our time on both sides coming up with a design, I started shopping for just the perfect bag right away.  I know when Kyle and I went to Jamaica there was a large variety of bags to choose from and I wanted this bag to be a good size and quality.  After doing some research I purchased four bags from www.shirtspace.com that I wanted to see in person.  I am so glad that I did!  Although all of them had “khaki” or “tan” in the description, not all of them were the color that I pictured.  One was listed as khaki, but arrived as a dark olive green!

After deciding on a large canvas bag that had an inside pocket and zipped closed, it was time to order the bags. We worked with the couple to narrow down design choices.  Ulitmately they came up with a design that we just tweaked for printing.  We decided to use a light blue pearl ink, but have Transfer Express make the designs for us.  We have used Transfer Express before and they do great work as well as have excellent customer service.  After just a few days of placing the order, our designs arrived.  I printed a  bag right away and was thrilled with the results!  A couple of days later I printed the rest of the bags and shipped them out to the happy couple!

We were very pleased to see pictures from Jamaica of our bags being used readily.  We recieved a post card from the couple today that said, “Thank you so much for the bags!  Our guests used them everyday.  It was easy to spot our group on the beach by the collection of bags.  Everyone commented how great they looked.  We appreciate you guys taking the time to make them for us.  Thank you!!!!”  Those few lines say it all.  We love our customers and we love making our customers happy!

Las Vegas Lady Mustangs

We finished our first softball team shirts today. Hoodies and t-shirts were on the menu! This order was our first time doing names and numbers so we had to find a company that would make this easy for us. When we went to the NBM show in Long Beach, CA  last August, we ran across a company called Transfer Express. This company has a fantastic system set up to order names, letters, numbers, even custom designs for screen printers. With just a heat press, which we already have, we just needed to order the names and numbers. The whole process from ordering the names and numbers to the customer service people to help me make sure I was ordering correctly was a great process! I highly recommend checking them out to fulfill those obligations of name and numbers for teams. Quick, easy, and pretty good price too!  We used Shirtspace.com for our shirts and hoodies of course.  They, too, always provide us with good prices and good customer service!

Rock Band Club Prep and Printing

Even though you have already seen the end result on our blog from October 24th, we wanted to show everyone the setup and printing of this job.  On the video we talked about burning 6 screens, but only show 4.  We will have the other screen prep on an additional upcoming video.  We like to print at night in the summer here in Las Vegas because during the day our garage is very hot so the lighting is a darker than we would like.  Plus we had the bug lights on because we were burning screens.  Enjoy!

The finishing touch-The black outline

About two weeks ago we saw a connection through our old Cub Scout pack and mentioned that we have a T-Shirt company  now.  He was genuinely interested and we gave him a couple of business cards, and told him that we would appreciate him passing on our information if he knew anyone that needed shirts.  Well, four days later I got a call from someone that needed shirts!  It was great!

The group that needed shirts needed them done in four days. The group is the Southern Nevada Living History Association and they do a three day Civil War reenactment at a state park here in Nevada. People travel from surrounding states to be a part of this yearly event.  So it was Tuesday and they needed the shirts on Saturday.  Yes, four days.  The person that

usually prints their shirts had moved and had not told his clients, but we reaped the benefit of his mistake.  So Kyle and I spend about 24 hours working up a suitable design, I ordered shirts from Shirtspace.com and they said they would arrive on time, and we were on our way.

Kyle and I talked a lot about how far we have come in these first few months with our business and our artwork.  A few months ago we would not have felt comfortable with rushing a job.  I can tell we have grown in our business because we printed a three-color design without even flinching.  I can remember it was not too long ago that we stressed about two color designs!

But the artwork, burning screens, and printing all came out beautifully.  We even finished in enough time to get the shirts to the group the night before they needed them.

We are still trying to get more business, but things are going steady so far.  It is fun!

Cleaning, Burning, and Printing

We had a very productive weekend.  We have three shirt orders that came in on Thursday and were able to get all three ready to print! Immediately on Friday I ordered the shirts from Shirtspace.com that we needed to get the orders moving!

The first two orders are for the National Honor Society at Northwest Career and Technical Academy.  They want shirts to sell as a fundraiser and want a girls style shirt and a boys style shirt.  While working with NHS over the past couple of weeks we came up with two very cool designs that I think are going to sell really well.  And, fortunately for us, we had a couple of shirts on hand and were able to print up sample shirts this weekend so they can start a pre-sell on the shirts.  This is beneficial for both of us because they can get their fundraising going, and if they sell more than they ordered, we can get more shirts ordered and printed for them!  It is really a win-win.

The third order that we got on Thursday was for the Northwest Career and Technical Academy Rock Band Club.  They came up with their own image that we tailored more for their school and they love it!  This is an exciting order for us because we don’t have any ties to this club so this is more of a blind order.  We are very happy to get their business and were fortunate to have the foresight to do a test run on the design this weekend.  This design is printed on a black shirt, but some of the detail is very fine and I was concerned about how I would do with the Ryopaque White Ink on a 230 mesh with fine detail.  But, it worked great!  I don’t have pictures for this one yet because we didn’t do a full print, but just tested the white.  Those pictures will be up when we get the rest of the shirts in later in the week.

So this weekend we spent most of Saturday rearranging our shop setup, removing emulsion from screens, cleaning the screens, then putting emulsion back on, burning images, and then finally, my favorite part, printing!  I am so glad that we have these jobs already setup.  Now I am just looking forward to my shirts to arrive from ShirtSpace.com!
